La mujer regresa
Me temblaban las manos al desplegarla.
El mensaje decía:
Eli,
"¿Eres Jenelle?" Pregunté.
Ella asintió.
Luego me explicó todo.

A Thank-You That Went Too Far
After receiving Eli’s umbrella, Jenelle had shared a thank-you story online.
She never mentioned our address.
Never revealed our last name.
But people recognized the Route 47 bus stop.
Someone identified Eli.
Others wanted to thank him.
The story spread.
Soon people began leaving gifts and notes at the bus depot.
Mr. Collins, Eli’s bus driver, collected them.
And before sunrise, he arranged everything on our lawn.
Forty-seven umbrellas.
Forty-seven boxes.
Forty-seven thank-yous.
Learning an Important Lesson
I wasn’t happy.
Not because people were kind.
But because they had crossed a boundary.
This was still our home.
And Eli was still a child.
To her credit, Jenelle immediately apologized.
So did Mr. Collins.
Even Eli spoke up.
“You still could’ve knocked.”
The bus driver nodded.
“You’re right.”
